THE TOWN OF STEELE CITY STRADDLES THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD.  NOT FAR FROM HERE A LEGEND BEGIN AT ROCK CREEK STATION ….  JAMES BUTLER HICKOK BECAME KNOWN AS WILD BILL IN THE YEAR 1861 AFTER THE SHOOTOUT WITH DAVID MCCANLES.

THIS  AREA IS ALSO KNOWN FOR THE HEART OF THE OREGON TRAIL. MANY PALEONTOLOGISTS VISIT HERE AS THIS USED TO BE THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA. FROM THAT GREW A TROPICAL FOREST COMPLETE WITH DINOSAURS AND PREHISTORIC PLANTS, REMAINS OF WHICH ARE STILL BEING FOUND.

WILDLIFE IS EVERYWHERE, AND THIS IS A GOOD PLACE FOR THIS COWGIRL WITH A CAMERA.

IT'S  UNHURRIED AND UNCOMMERCIAL WITH THE FEEL OF A PLACE THAT BECKONS BACK TO A DIFFERENT ERA.  THIS IS ALSO CATTLE COUNTRY ….. YOU KNOW IT THE MOMENT YOU LEAVE THE LITTLE TOWN OF ENDICOTT AND TRAVEL THRU THE FOOTHILLS AND ENTER INTO A WINDSWEPT VALLEY.

AS A COWGIRL THIS MYTHIC PLACE WHERE EVERYONE IS KIND AND TOLERANT AND WHERE I FEEL FREE TO LEAVE MY HOUSE UNLOCKED.

THE DELICATE SCENT OF COTTONWOOD TREES IN THE MIDDLE OF A JULY SNOWSTORM, THE BILLOWING OF SUMMER THUNDERCLOUDS, THE BARK OF A FOX. IT IS HERE THE LAND THAT RESONATES DEEPLY WITH ONE BEING, AND FEELS AS IF IT CONTAINS THE VOICES OF MEMORIES OF ITS ANCESTORS, THE OUTLAWS, THE COWBOYS AND  THE IMMIGRANTS TRAVLING THRU THIS LAND. AND I CHEYENNE BOWER AM A PART OF IT.
